Where We Work Around Columbus

We work across Columbus and in the communities around it, in older city neighborhoods and newer suburbs alike.

Curving residential street of brick bungalows and porch-fronted houses under maples in autumn color

You’ll know us by our turquoise van. In every community we serve, the work is the same: lock repairs and rekeying, new deadbolts and smart locks, maintenance for aging hardware and help when a door can’t wait.

Older Homes in the City Neighborhoods

Much of Columbus was built in the late 1800s and early 1900s. In the Short North and nearby Victorian Village, many brick houses still have their original mortise locks, where the whole lock sits in a pocket cut into the edge of the door. Those doors have often been rehung many times over the years.

Old mortise sets are worth keeping when they can be kept. A worn cylinder, a tired spring or a latch that no longer catches can usually be put right, and the door keeps its look. When the hardware is past saving, the work is in fitting something that suits an old door.

Streets With a Bit of Everything

In Clintonville, Grandview Heights, Bexley, Upper Arlington and Worthington, houses from many decades often share a street. One may still have its first brass hardware, while the one next door has a keypad deadbolt. Both are everyday work for a locksmith, so it helps to mention what kind of lock you have when you get in touch.

Newer Homes in the Suburbs

Out in Dublin, Westerville and Hilliard, the houses are often newer, and the locks tend to be newer too. Keypad deadbolts and smart locks are common there, and so are rental properties.

For rentals, rekeying between tenants keeps old keys from working without replacing a single lock. Owners with several units sometimes want a master key system, so one key opens every door while each tenant’s key opens only their own.

Shops and Offices Around Town

Small businesses across the area have their own needs: storefront locks on glass doors, exit devices on back doors and keys that change hands when staff do. Rekeying after a staff change keeps old keys from opening the shop, and a master key system can give each person only the doors they need. Our commercial lock work covers the same communities as our home work.

Helping Us Find You

A few details make it easier to reach the right door:

  • The street address, and the nearest cross street if the house is hard to spot.
  • Which door or which lock needs work: front, back, side, garage entry or storm door.
  • A door code or a building contact for apartments and offices.
  • Where to park, if the street is busy or parking is tight.

Questions About Our Area

Do you work in German Village, Victorian Village and Italian Village?

Yes. All three sit inside Columbus, so they’re part of the city we cover. The same goes for the other neighborhoods within the city limits.

My address is on the edge of one of these towns. Will you come out?

It may well be, so it’s worth asking. Call (614) 705-0107 or send us your ZIP code with your request, and we’ll tell you.

Two communities in the list share a ZIP code. Does that matter?

Not at all. ZIP codes and neighborhood names don’t always line up, and parts of the Short North share codes with the rest of Columbus. Give us the street address and we’ll know where we’re headed.

Do you handle cars and businesses in these towns too?

Yes. The same area covers homes, shops and offices, and car keys and lockouts.

Tell us about the lock, the door or the car, and we’ll take it from there.
